When I have way too many heals from the bread loaves left over I gather them up and make bread pudding. This is not a thinning recipe. This is why you use the bread to make homemade breadcrumbs most of the time.
For this recipe you will need:
8to 10 Slices of Bread ( yes, you can use the inner pieces too!)
8 eggs
3 or 4 cups Milk
1 Tbsp. vanilla
Cinnamon for sprinkling on top
Optional: Chocolate chips (white and chocolate are so yummy especially around the holidays)
In a 5 Qt. pan crack eggs and mix. Add in the milk, vanilla and if you are adding chocolate do so at this time. After well mixed stagger the slices of bread on top and push down a little into the liquid. The more milk you add the runnier the pudding will be when cooked. The bread absorbs a good amount of the milk. Then sprinkle with cinnamon before putting into the oven.
Place in a 350* pre-heated oven for about 45 min. uncovered. You don't want it to be too runny or too hard so keep an eye on it. I usually can tell it is ready when I can smell it well throughout the house. It is like testing out a cake if you put a knife down into the center and it comes out almost clean it is done cooking. So yummy served warm.
